Umuzi, one of the imprints of Random House Struik (Pty) Ltd, under normal circumstances publishes accessible literary fiction with a South African flavour, and narrative non-fiction with literary merit.
We do not publish children's books, unless by an author already on our backlist. Only a limited number of poetry and short story collections, usually by established writers, will appear under the Umuzi imprint.
If you feel your manuscript falls within our guidelines, please send us your manuscript proposal. We ask that prospective authors prepare their proposals as follows:
Please send us three sample chapters of your manuscript as well as the following COVER PAGE with the following information:
- a short author biography
- a synopsis
Please send the completed cover page and sample chapters to Fanie Naudé at fanien@randomstruik.co.za. If you submit your manuscript by post, please do not send your only copy. Umuzi exercises reasonable care in the safekeeping of submitted material, but cannot be held liable for any loss or damage to manuscripts submitted.

Umuzi, 'n druknaam van Random House Struik (Edms.) Bpk., gee graag goeie Afrikaanse boeke uit wat 'n vars perspektief op Suid Afrika bied. Ons publiseer sowel gewilde as literêre fiksie en biografieë van letterkundige gehalte.
Ons gee nie kinderboeke uit nie, tensy deur 'n skrywer wat reeds voorheen by Umuzi gepubliseer het. Slegs 'n beperkte aantal kortverhaal- en digbundels, gewoonlik deur gevestigde skrywers en digters, sal onder die Umuzi-druknaam verskyn.
Indien jou manuskrip klop met wat hierbo staan, is jy welkom om ’n voorlegging aan Umuzi te stuur. Ons vra dat voornemende skrywers hul voorleggings soos volg voorberei:

Indien jy jou manuskrip per pos stuur, moet asseblief nie jou oorspronklike kopie stuur nie. Umuzi oefen redelike sorg uit om materiaal veilig te bewaar, maar kan nie aanspreeklik gehou word vir verlies of skade aan manuskripte wat voorgelê word nie.
